Question: can I short an ETF in a non-margin account, such as an IRA?

In my Vanguard IRA account and 401K account, option and shorting is not permitted. At least, I was told so.

IRAs and 401Ks are long term investing vehicles... not trading vehicles. That's why you cannot short stocks or buy options out of them.
