If you don't have a computer:

  • Internet cafes are located throughout Beijing. Hours of operation vary.
  • Most hotels have business centers where the Internet is available.
  • They both typically charge reasonable rates for access -- up to RMB 20 per hour.

If you have a computer:

  • Internet access using dial-up is available.
  • You don't need an Internet service provider.
  • The government provides access for free -- though you may have to pay phone charges.
  • For dial-up, configure your computer to dial 16900 -- login: 169 and password: 169.
  • Alternative dial-up phone number is 16300 -- login: 163 and password: 163.

Wireless Internet access:

  • Wireless Internet is available in many cafes throughout Beijing.
  • Starbuck's has wireless in many locations.
  • You typically have to pay for access.
